The skin plays an important role in protection, sensation and overall health. Skin procedures may be considered for medical, functional or reconstructive reasons, including skin cancer excision, benign skin lesion removal and scar revision.
Dr Ling-Yun Alice Chang provides assessment and surgical management for selected skin concerns. Treatment recommendations are based on diagnosis, clinical assessment, medical history, risks, recovery considerations and individual circumstances.
Dr Chang provides assessment and surgical treatment for selected skin cancers, benign skin lesions and scars from her private consulting rooms and accredited hospitals across Sydney.
Skin cancer refers to abnormal skin cells that grow in an uncontrolled way. Diagnosis and treatment planning depend on the type, size, location and stage of the lesion, as well as the patient’s general health.
Surgical excision may be recommended for some skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Dr Chang will discuss the proposed approach, pathology requirements, reconstruction options where relevant, and possible risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, wound healing issues and the need for further treatment.
Scar revision may be considered where a scar causes discomfort, restriction, functional concern or appearance-related concern. The approach depends on the type of scar, location, skin quality, healing history and individual circumstances.
Scar revision cannot remove a scar completely. Results and healing vary. Risks include delayed healing, infection, changes in sensation, recurrence, pigmentation change and further scarring.
Benign skin lesions are non-cancerous growths or changes that may occur on or beneath the skin. Removal may be considered if a lesion causes discomfort, irritation, diagnostic uncertainty or other concerns.
Examples may include cysts, lipomas, skin tags, moles and seborrhoeic keratoses. Suitability for removal and the method used will be discussed during consultation. Risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, recurrence, wound healing issues and changes in skin sensation.
